Breaking: New Independent Poll of November Voters Shows Heidi Heitkamp Leading Rick Berg
Heitkamp Continues to Build Momentum; Poll Shows Heitkamp with Commanding Lead Among Independent Voters
Today a new, independent poll of likely November voters conducted for Valley News Live and NBC North Dakota News by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research shows that Heidi Heitkamp leads Rep. Rick Berg in the race for U.S. Senate in North Dakota, building on recent momentum showing continued strong fundraising by the Heitkamp campaign.
The Mason-Dixon poll showed Heitkamp leading Berg 47-46, and led 51-36 among independent voters. The poll follows news last week that Heidi Heitkamp outraised Rick Berg during the pre-primary reporting period.
“Heidi’s message of putting party interests aside and putting North Dakota first to create jobs and cut spending is resonating with North Dakotans who have concerns about Rick Berg’s history of raising his own pay and voting to cut taxes for millionaires like himself,” said Brandon Lorenz, spokesman for Heidi for Senate.
The news follows a recent poll from DFM Research conducted on behalf of the North Dakota Dem-NPL that also showed Heidi Heitkamp leading Rick Berg.
National polls show that Rep. Berg’s support for Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget is undermining his campaign “and as incumbents stake claim to unpopular positions on this newest Ryan budget, their already weakened position erodes further” (Greenberg Quinlan Rosen Survey, 4/18/12)
“The Ryan budget is in trouble. When described, including using Ryan’s own language, support collapses to 34 percent. Many of the proposals in this newest Ryan budget are deeply unpopular, leaving Republicans vulnerable to attack, particularly on taxes, Medicaid, Medicare, cuts to anti–poverty programs, and health care.” (Greenberg Quinlan Rosen Survey, 4/18/12)
